๐ MOONEE PONDS CRICKET CLUB โ COMMUNITY UPDATE
The Moonee Ponds Cricket Club Committee would like to share an important update regarding our home ground Aberfeldie Park.
You may have recently seen or heard media reports regarding the future of Essendon Cricket Club at Windy Hill and its proposed relocation. ECC preferred location is the Aberfeldie Park precinct.
Unfortunately, those proposed changes have significant consequences for Moonee Ponds Cricket Club and our future at our long-standing home, and may also have implications for a number of other existing community sporting and recreation groups that use the wider Aberfeldie Park precinct.
These include Aberfeldie Football Clubโs junior and womenโs programs, Essendon Maribyrnong Park Ladies Cricket Club, Moonee Ponds United Soccer Club and the local dog obedience club.
For MPCC, we have been advised that the proposed changes may mean that our club will no longer be able to remain at our home ground from the 2027/28 season.
Following our most recent Committee meeting, the position of the Moonee Ponds Cricket Club is clear:
We want to remain at Aberfeldie Park and continue into the future as the Moonee Ponds Cricket Club in our own right.
Aberfeldie Park is much more than simply a cricket ground to us. It is where friendships have been formed, families have gathered, premierships have been celebrated and generations of players have represented our club.
Our Committee is determined to continue constructive discussions with Moonee Valley City Council and other relevant organisations and to explore every reasonable avenue available to protect the future of MPCC at Aberfeldie Park.
We understand there are broader changes being considered for the precinct, but we believe the history, identity and future of existing community clubs must also form an important part of those discussions.
We have another meeting with Council scheduled for next week and will continue to represent the interests of our club, our members and our supporters.
๐ WEโD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR MEMORIES
If you have played at Aberfeldie Park as “Bear” or as an opposition, supported the club, volunteered, watched family or friends play, or simply spent time around MPCC over the years, we would love you to share your memories with us.
What is your favourite memory of Aberfeldie Park? What has Moonee Ponds Cricket Club and this ground meant to you and your family?
Please leave your memories, stories and photos in the comments below.
Whether it was a premiership, a great innings, a Saturday afternoon with mates, helping behind the bar, watching your children or parents play, or simply being part of the club community โ we want to hear your story.
Every story helps show that a community sporting club is about much more than the ground it plays on. It is about the people, friendships, history and memories built there over generations.
We sincerely thank our players, past players, members, supporters and the wider community for the support we have already received. We want to especially thank are supportive sponsors Jellis Craig, The Moonee Ponds Club, Reed Plumbing, Jude Fina Foods, Foodnet Food Service, Routleys Bakery and Coca-Cola for their tremendous support. You guys are bloody legends.
We will continue to keep everyone informed as discussions progress.
Leo Cullia -President Moonee Ponds Cricket Club- on behalf of the committee.
๐๐ Proud of our history. Determined about our future.
